Australian sportsbook operator PointsBet has signed a long-term partnership agreement with Michigan’s Lac Vieux Desert Band of Lake Superior Chippewa Indians. The agreement will allow the company to enter the Michigan online gambling market.
Under the agreement with the publicly-funded and funded Lac Vieux Desert Public Enterprise and Finance Commission, PointsBet will be able to operate an online and mobile sports bookmaker in Michigan, depending on the contingent, when issuing the necessary licenses from the state’s competent regulatory authorities.
Michigan Governor Gretchen Whitmer signed his agreement on December 20, 2019, thus legalizing gambling in the United States. The governor’s signature paved the way for the establishment of the state betting market, but it remains to be determined when the live betting will be launched.
Michigan is another place where PointsBet has made an important strategic partnership. The company has partnered with casino gaming operator Penn National Gaming as well as Tioga Downs Casino in New York and Meadowlands Racetrack in New Jersey to expand its presence in regulated sports betting markets in the US.
PointsBet has signed a 20-year agreement with the Lac Vieux Desert Public Enterprise and Finance Commission (LVD), with an option to extend it for another 5 years, unless either party gives a written intention to cancel the transaction. The two companies will offer online and mobile PointsBet sports betting through online licenses from LVD. The agreement also includes online casino games after the recently signed legislation also allows this activity.
Following the termination or expiration of the recent transaction, PointsBet and LVD have agreed that the sports betting operator will retain the right to use customer data that it has acquired directly through the digital channels through which it will provide sports betting and casino games.
PointsBet and LVD have also been reported to be negotiating the sports bookmaker’s job at Casino Resort Northern Waters in Watersmet. The property is owned and operated by Lac Vieux Desert Band of Lake Superior Chippewa Indians.
Commenting on the expansion of its presence in the US, PointsBet CEO Sam Swanell said they were pleased to reach such an important online sports betting and online casino agreement with such a good and reputable partner and look forward to both parties working together and to succeed.
